LARGE, FINE CYLINDER MUSIC BOX WITH FIVE BELLS AND DRUMS Switzerland, Sainte-Croix, c. 1880-1890 Rectangular fine-wood case featuring elaborate floral marquetry on the lid; internal glass dust cover; spring-driven cylinder mechanism. H. approx. 26 cm, W. 58.5 cm, D. 32 cm. Movement plate bears the manufacturer's mark 'SW' within an oval (likely Samuel Junod / Mermod Frères) and movement number 727; case number 26480 appears on the right-hand cylinder bearing block. Cylinder music box featuring a precision brass movement with a wide brass cylinder and a two-part steel comb. Orchestrion-style configuration with five engraved brass bells and drums. Winding and lever mechanism on the left; engraved plates reading 'Change/Répète' and 'Arrête/Joue' on the right. Part. bumped and rubbed. Mechanism starts when engaged. Provenance: Private collection in the Rhineland.
