Two-piece spruce top, maple back, dark reddish-brown varnish; includes case. 4/4 size viola; total length 66 cm, body length 38.6 cm. Label: "Thir, Viennae, Anno 17..?" (likely Johann Georg Thir or Mathias Thir). Stop length 21.7 cm, neck length 14.9 cm. High-quality work from the late 18th-century Viennese school of violin making. Part. bumped and rubbed; restorations to the pegbox and top. Provenance: Private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia.
