FINE FRENCH VIOLIN AFTER 'AMATI' Probably Mirecourt, circa 1780/1800 Two-piece spruce top and maple back, light brown varnish, with case. 4/4 violin, L. 59.5 cm, body length 35.5 cm. Label: 'Nicolaus Amati Cremonen Hieronymi Fil.ac. Antonii Nepos Fecit 16-'. A finely crafted violin modeled after Nicola Amati, with an elegantly curved outline and delicate arching. Probably made in one of the renowned workshops of Mirecourt towards the end of the 18th century. Minimal damage, rest. and refurbished, ready to play. Provenance: Acquired from the violin maker Bünnagel, Cologne, September 2006 (original invoice) - Private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia.
