Description
CSAKAN / WALKING-STICK FLUTE (ALSO KNOWN AS STOCK RECORDER) Probably Austro-Hungarian, 19th century. Wood, seven finger holes to the front and thumb hole. Length 88.5 cm. Unmarked. Historic woodwind instrument in the form of a Csakan, also known as a walking-stick flute or stock recorder. The Csakan combines the external appearance of a walking stick with the playing technique of a recorder and was particularly widespread in Central Europe in the early 19th century. It was used both in bourgeois salon music and in domestic music-making and enjoyed particular popularity in Vienna and Hungary. Damaged, functionality not tested.
