Description
BANJO 'DEERING TEXAS Texas, USA, 20th c. Four-string banjo, 24 carat gold-plated engraved hardware, mother-of-pearl inlay with Texas flags and motifs, walnut, maple wood, with bag. L. 89 cm, bowl diameter 28 cm. Inscribed 'Deering The Ullrich Sesquicentennial' on the head, numbered '1899' on the verso. The Texas banjo made by 'Deering' commemorates the 150th anniversary of Texas' independence from Mexico. Only 151 Texas banjos were made in total, each with a serial number representing one of the years between 1836 and 1986. The Deering Texas banjo was designed and marketed by Tony Ullrich of Houston. Min. rubbed, perfect condition, ready to play. Provenance: Private collection Düsseldorf.
