MONUMENTAL IMPOTANT FACADE CABINET Gdansk, around 1650 Walnut, burl wood, solid, veneered, finely carved, iron fittings. H. 215, W. 220, D. 68 cm. Tall rectangular two-door and two-drawer body, pressed ball feet, architecturally structured front, richly symmetrical with coffered panels, surrounding band inlays, fluted columns with Corinthian capitals, door panels designed with round arches, flanked by profiled strips, protruding pillars, rich carving. Representative late Renaissance cabinet from Danzig, circa 1650. The strong proportions, deep-cut coffered panels, and profiled cornice refer to the North German-Baltic furniture tradition of the 17th century. Bumped, veneer damage, damaged.
