Description
MILDRED THOMPSON 1936 Jacksonville, Florida - 2003 Atlanta, Georgia CAT (1966) Mixed media on paper. Visible size 45 x 62 cm (F. 48 x 65 cm). Probably signed lower right 'Milly', dated, with dedication and illegibly inscr. Slightly browned. Framed behind glass (unopened). Provenance: Bergische private collection. Mildred Thompson studied at Howard University in Washington, D.C. and attended the Skowhegan School Of Painting & Sculpture in Maine. From 1958 to 1961, Thompson studied under Paul Wunderlich, Emil Schumacher and Horst Janssen at the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg. During her stay in New York City in the early 1960s, Thompson's works were acquired by the Museum of Modern Art and the Brooklyn Museum. Due to increasing discrimination, she returned to Germany in 1963. Sie lived, worked and taught art and art history in Düren. In 1965, she taught as an art teacher at the Ursulines in Düren.
