GERD BOEHME Dresden 1899 - 1978 'DANCER' (1927) Oil on canvas. 119 x 73 cm. Signed and dated lower right. Verso: inscr. 'Böhme' on the frame strip on the reverse. Small hole in the upper left corner, lower edge slightly dam. and wavy, with craquelure, part. slightly rubbed and soiled. Frame strips on the sides. Literature: with exh.-brochure 'Gerd Böhme 1899-1978 Malerei - Graphik', Kunstausstellung Kühl, Dresden 1983, with ill. Trained as a lithographer, Gerd Böhme studied at the Dresden Art Academy from 1927, where he developed a precise, realistic painting style as a student of Otto Dix. The work "Dancer", created in the same year, impressively reflects his affinity for New Objectivity, with Böhme depicting the human body in clear, unembellished strokes. The figure contrasts strikingly with the delicate floral decoration of the wallpaper, creating a clear distinction between the expressive portrait and its decorative surroundings.
