Volker Stelzmann is one of Germany's significant figurative painters, whose work critically examines socio-political issues. Drawing on the tradition of objective realism, his multi-layered, multi-figure compositions reflect the tensions between the isolated individual and society, without being clearly assignable to any particular stylistic school.
