GUSTAV AUREL MINDSZENTI Wien 1892 - 1965 EXPRESSIVE VOLCANIC ERUPTION (1920) Oil on canvas, doubl. at the edges, newly mounted. 100,5 x 101 cm. Signed and dated lower right. Verso: Remnants of an old label on the reverse. Slightly worn at the edges. Gustav Aurel Mindszenti (1892-1965) was an Austrian filmmaker who worked internationally in various areas of film production. After starting out as a draughtsman at Wiener Film in 1918, he worked as a director, screenwriter and film architect. In the 1920s and 1930s, he was active in Austria, Germany and Great Britain, directing Helden des Alltags (Heroes of Everyday Life, 1923) and A Royal Demand (1933), among others. After returning to Vienna, he worked briefly for Wien-Film before emigrating to South Africa after the Second World War. He was last active in film there in 1947. Little is known about the rest of his life; he died in Vienna in 1965.
