REMBRANDT HARMENSZOON VAN RIJN 1606 Leiden - 1669 Amsterdam 'ABRAHAM SPEAKING WITH ISAAC' (1645) Etching on thin, smooth paper without with no discernible deckle structure or a visible watermark . Sheet size 15,7 x 13,1 cm (framed 52 x 47.5 x 3.5 cm). Inscribed 'Rembrandt 1645' in the plate lower left. Spotted, trimmed to the plate edge, partly damaged and restored, edges supplemented; verso various handwritten annotations in ink and pencil (secondary). Mounted in a passe-partout and framed behind glass. The image is based on the biblical passage 1. Genesis 22:7-8 and depicts the moment when Isaac, holding the bundle of kindling for the sacrificial offering, asks his father about the whereabouts of the sacrificial sheep.
