This work was created in the mid-1890s in Duhnen (now a district of Cuxhaven). During this period, the artist dedicated himself intensely to en plein air painting, capturing the rugged nature of the North Sea coast and the daily life of the local fishermen. The present drawing shows a panoramic view of the settlement from the dunes, emphasizing the seclusion and the original character of this location.
