Description
THOMAS GIRTIN 1775 London - 1802 ibid. THREE PANORAMIC VIEWS: LAKE COMO, LAKE MAGGIORE, GENOA Lithographs, later hand-coloured with gouache in 1840s. Each image size 22 x 87 cm (f. 48.5 x 113 cm). Signed "Th. Girtin". Each mounted under glass and passe-partout framed. Thomas Girtin was a pupil of his stepfather Thomas Vaughan and the watercolourist Edward Dayes. Early in his career, he worked as a watercolour colourist for mezzotint prints by J. M. W. Turner. In England, he was regarded by his contemporaries as one of the first significant landscape watercolourists. Provenance: Private collection, Dusseldorf. Art Dealer, Winsen.
