Description
ADOLF LOOS 1870 Brno - 1933 Kalksburg (Vienna) COUPLE OF 'LOOS' LAMPS Italy, Veart around 1970 White glass, metall (probably gilded), lacquered wood, each single-light electrified. D. 20 / 40 cm. Only minor signs of use.. These rare lamps from the 'LOOS' series were manufactured by VeArt in Italy under the model numbers VT 218 and VT 220. The VeArt catalogue text states that they are a reissue of a design by Adolf Loos. No such lamp design has yet been documented in the literature on Loos. Nevertheless it seems plausible. For his designs he preferred traditional manufacturing methods and forms, which he radically simplified. As is the case with these lamps, using the Murano technique of 'vetro in gabbia' (glass in a cage). The modernity of his vision was not based on dogmatic functionalism, but on an ornament-free, rationalist design that could nevertheless follow traditional models.
