PIERRE-JULES MÈNE 1810 Paris - 1879 Paris 'VAINQUEUR III' Bronze, black patina, on an oval naturalistic plinth. H. 32.5, L. 39, D. 21 cm; weight approx. 7.2 kg. Signed 'P. J. Mêne' and dated '1866' on the plinth; titled on the front; foundry mark 'Bronze Garantie Paris J.B. Deposee' on the back of the plinth. Naturalistic depiction of a jockey in full riding gear-including helmet, crop, and spurs-with his horse after a victorious race. Part. bumped and rubbed, loss of painting, traces of oxidation; reins damaged.
