Description
AUGUST GAUL 1869 Großhauheim - 1921 Berlin GROWING DEER circa 1918 Bronze, with dark and dark green patina, on a rectangular plinth and marble base (H. 3 cm). Overall height 32 cm, width 36 cm, depth 8 cm, weight approx. 6.31 kg. Signed 'A. Gaul' on the plinth, numbered 'V' in Roman numerals on the side of the base. August Gaul's "Striding Deer" is one of two deer that the animal sculptor designed for a planned monument that was never realized. Gaul, known for his expressive animal depictions, captured the graceful movement of the deer with natural elegance and dynamism. The design was first sold in 1919 in a small edition of approximately ten pairs by the Cassirer Gallery. Minor damage. and loss of patina, damaged on the front base and foot.
