Description
PAUL LUDWIG KOWALCZEWSKI 1865 Mieltschin - 1910 Berlin (probably) ROMAN WARRIOR Bronze, dark patina, on naturalistic plinth and marble base (H. 16 cm). Total H. 71, W. 20, D. 17 cm, weight approx. 21.99 kg. On the back of the plinth, foundry mark 'Martin Piltzing Berlin', presumably Paul Ludwig Kowalczewski. Powerful depiction of a Roman warrior in a calm posture. The warrior holds a sword, which he examines closely, while leaning on a shield bearing a lion crest. The combination of military strength and thoughtful calm lends the figure an exciting expressiveness. Partial loss of patina.
