HANS SCHWARZ 1492 Augsburg - around 1550 ibid. (after) RELIEF 'BURIAL OF CHRIST - PIETAS AD OMNIA' Southern Germany, probably 16th/17th century Bronze, fire-gilded. H. 16.5, W. 11.5, D. 5.5 cm, weight approx. 0.43 kg. Finely crafted relief depicting the burial of Christ, executed in the tradition of the late Renaissance in Augsburg and the successor to the sculptor Hans Schwarz. The composition shows the central figures of the Passion scene and careful modeling of the faces. The designation Pietas ad omnia refers to the meditative and devotional character of the representation. Partially bumped and rubbed.
