ALBERT-ERNEST CARRIER-BELLEUSE 1824 Anizy-le Château/ Aisne - 1887 Sèvres 'LISEUSE' (THE READER)* Chryselephantine, bronze, dark patina, face and hands carved from ivory, on a round plinth. Total height 61.5 cm, width 18 cm, depth 18 cm, weight approx. 13.61 kg. Signed 'A. Carrier Belleuse' on the front of the plinth, inscribed 'Liseuse Par Carrier-Belleuse Grand Prix Du Salon'. Above a round plinth, full-length representation of a woman reading in courtly attire. Minor repairs and rubbed patina, two small drill holes on the back of the headscarf. CITES marketing certificate is available. Please note that due to the current CITES regulations for ivory and tortoiseshell objects, unrestricted trade is only permitted within the European Community.
