Description
EMILE-LOUIS PICAULT 1833 Paris - 1915 ibid. ESCHOLIER Bronze, dark patina, on a round plinth (H. 3.5 cm). Total H. 64, W. 28, D. 21 cm, weight approx. 12.68 kg. Marked 'E. Picault' on the plinth, plaque 'Escholier 14eme Siècle' on the front. Three-dimensional representation of a young scholar (Escholier) carrying the Bible under his arm and a sword at his side. The combination of these attributes refers to the ideal of intellectual education and, at the same time, military prowess, as was often interpreted allegorically in the 19th century. Partial loss of patina, lantern missing.
