FRANZ XAVER BERGMANN 1861 Austria - 1936 MONKEY SITTING ON A CANAPÉ (EROTIC FIGURE) Viennese bronze, dark patina. H. 7.5, W. 14, D. 6.5 cm, weight approx. 0.59 kg. Jug mark 'B' on the back, marked 'B17?' on the inside. Viennese erotic bronze with a humorous, ambiguous depiction of an erect monkey sitting on a bed. The bronze is made in two parts and can be opened by unscrewing the ball feet, revealing a couple locked in an intimate embrace inside the bed. Partial loss of patina. Provenance: Private collection, Hesse.
