Description
KITAGAWA UTAMARO, TWO OBAN TATE-E Japan, circa 1800 Woodblock print, framed under glass. Ca. 24x37-25x37 cm (52.5x39.5 cm with frame). Including one from Act II of the series Chushingura (Treasury of the Loyal Retainers), depicting Oboshi Rikiya meeting his sweetheart Konami and handing over a sword, with Honzo watching from behind a sliding door, signed Utamaro hitsu, publisher: Nishimuraya Cho, with censor's seal kiwame; another attributed to Utamaro, depicting two bijin, one wearing a hat and the other holding an umbrella. With traces of age, faded colours and slight staining.
