A MOTHER-OF-PEARL LACQUER BOX AND A SMALL MOTHER OF PEARL BOX Japan, Meiji-Period Lacquerware/metal. L. 4.4-13.3 cm. Including a lacquer box with mother-of-pearl inlay on the lid and bottom, depicting peacocks and flowers. The interior features inscriptions and the date 1852. Another small metal box has a mother-of-pearl inlaid exterior. With traces of age and use, slightly abraded. Provenance: From an old private collection in the southern part of North Rhine-Westphalia.
