Description
AN IMPERIAL BLUE-GROUND SILK EMBROIDERED NINE-DRAGON ROBE (JIFU) China, Qing Dynasty Embroidery. W. 153 x H. 136 cm. The robe is finely couched and embroidered in gold-wrapped and multicoloured threads against a deep blue ground, decorated with nine dragons soaring amidst cloud scrolls and chasing flaming pearls, interspersed with the Eight Buddhist Emblems (baxian). The hems are worked in couched gold-wrapped threads with crashing waves and lishui bands. With traces of age, minor damages and restorations, with slight staining to the inner cuffs. Provenance: From a German private collection.
