Description
A PARCEL-GILT IRON 'DRAGON' TRIPOD CENSER China, probably Ming Dynasty Iron. H. 12.1 cm. The body of the censer is carved with two three-clawed dragons soaring amidst clouds, while the neck is decorated with Baoxiang (precious) floral patterns. The base is incised with "An Zhong" (possibly the name of a Ming dynasty official) and also adorned with Baoxiang motifs. The cover is openwork carved, with a border decorated with meander and Baoxiang patterns, and a central top featuring a dragon motif. With traces of age and use, partially abraded and damaged. Provenance: From a German private collection.
