Description
A BRONZE CENSER IN FORM OF AN ELEPHANT Japan, Meiji period Bronze. H. 26 cm. The censer is in the shape of an elephant. The elephant's head is raised high, the tapestry on the back is decorated with a dragon, head and tail with jewellery. The elephant carries a bronze bell on its back. The surface of the bell is carved with exotic animals and cloud patterns, and a phoenix stands on the top of the bell. With slight traces of use.
