Description
A THANGKA DEPICTING SIMHAVAKTRA China (Tibet), probably 16th century Distemper on cloth, framed under glass. 58x44.5 cm. The thangka depicts Simhavaktra with a body red in color with three eyes in the middle, holding aloft a hook in the right hand and a treasure vase to the heart, standing in a manner with the right leg drawn in and the left extended on a double lotus base, wearing gold filigree ornaments and apron, backed by a flaming red aureole. Surrounding the main figure are various Buddhas, gurus and protectors. With traces of age, partially damaged. Provenance: From a private collection in North Rhine-Westphalia.
