EIN RAUCHGEFÄSS IN FORM EINES LUDUAN AUS BRONZE

A BRONZE LUDUAN-FORM CENSER China, Ming dynasty Bronze. H. 20 cm. The Luduan-form censer is depicted with a single horn, its head raised, eyes wide open, mouth agape, and four legs standing upright, with a snake beneath its feet. The Luduan's head is removable, allowing for incense to be placed inside. With traces of age and use, partially abraded. Provenance: From an old private collection in the southern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, acquired in 1982 from the auction house Lempertz.
