AN IVORY OKIMONO OF A BALLED SHISHI Japan, around 1900 Ivory. H. 3.8 cm. The okimono is finely carved as a shishi curled into a ball, with inlaid eyes and mouth open, containing a movable ball. The mane and tail are carved with curling fur. With traces of age and use, slightly abraded and cracked.
