A STAG-ANTLER NETSUKE OF A SHISHI AND CUB Japan, 18th/19th century Stag-antler. H. 7.3 cm. The netsuke is carved as an adult shishi with a ferocious expression crouching atop a rock, beneath which a cub rests its forebody on the rock, gazing up at the adult lion. A coin is set within the openwork section at the center of the netsuke. With traces of use and age, partially abraded.
