A WOOD NETSUKE OF AN ONI Japan, 19th century Wood. H. 4.3 cm. The netsuke is carved as a long-haired, single-horned oni, seated cross-legged, testing his strength by pressing down on the vertical axis of an egg. With traces of use, partially abraded. Provenance: From an old private collection in North Rhine-Westphalia.
