Partially min. rest. Very decorative 19th-century frame. The Dutch artist Michiel van Mierevelt, son of a goldsmith and engraver, quickly established himself as a successful portrait painter while still a student in Utrecht. He later became court painter to Prince Maurice of Orange. During his lifetime, he painted many important figures of wealth and influence, including the royal couple Amalie zu Solms-Braunfels and Frederik Hendrik of Orange. Amalie zu Solms-Braunfels was an important figure of the 17th century. She played a significant role, particularly in the political events of her time. She was also highly regarded for her diplomatic skills, outstanding intelligence and education. In addition, she was involved in the arts and literature, which has had a significant influence on Dutch culture to this day. Frederik Hendrik, on the other hand, played a significant role in the military and politics of the 17th century. Under the influence of his wife, he fought for the independence and power of the Netherlands. To this day, the couple stands not only for a political alliance, but also for mutual respect and affection.
