LOWER RHENISH / DUTCH SCHOOL OF THE EARLY 16TH CENTURY MADONNA AND CHILD Oil on oak panel. 31.5 x 21.5 cm (F. 43 x 33.5 cm). Part. min. old rest., part. min. old retouching, age-related craquelure. Frame. The original catalogue description from 1912 reads: "Half-length portrait of the Madonna in three-quarter profile facing right. She offers her left breast to the Child seated before her. The Child reaches with its right hand towards the mother's breast, while with its left hand it grasps the little finger of Mary's right hand, with which she offers her breast to the Child. Steep mountainous landscape in the background. The Madonna's mantle is bright red, her dress very dark green, her hair brown. Delicate light blue-green tones in the background.
