The subject comes from van Dyck's early Italian creative phase. Altogether eight workshop repetitions of the subject are known, which are in different collections, among others in the museums of Turin, Gent, New York and Munich as well as various international art collections. The variant offered here from the collection of the Duke of Sussex is also very probably one of the repetitions executed in van Dyck's workshop.
