JOSEPH IGNATZ SADLER 17 February 1725 - 9 January 1767 ASSUMPTION OF CHRIST Oil on canvas (relined). 92.5 x 49 cm. Verso: extensively labelled on the canvas on an old paper label: Part. slightly old rest., min. old retouching. On the canvas, on an old paper label in Sütterlin script, a comprehensive inscription: '... very valuable... sign.... Picture in the workshop of the master cutler Zobel at Oberringe in Proppau. I bought it from him at the beginning of the 19th century for a small amount, I think 6-8 guilders and had it restored by my friend Rudolf Fempler in Troppan and later by the excellent restorer Franz Wocka at the Imperial Gallery in Vienna. The master's signet, Josef Sadler 1752, is located on the old canvas at approximately this point. Julius Rill, Brunn, 5 January 1914. Provenance: international private collection.
