CIRCLE OF TIZIAN (ACTUALLY TIZIANO VECELLIO) Around 1488 Pieve di Cadore - 1576 Venice HALF-FIGURE PORTRAIT OF FRANZ I (FRANCOIS I) Oil on hardwood panel (partly covered with old canvas). 55 x 45 cm (F. 69 x 56 cm). Verso: Old wax seal, probably 19th century (uninterpreted). Partially old retouching, old overpainting, craquelure. Frame. Titian created several versions of the portrait of Francis I, one of which is now in the Louvre in Paris, another in Genoa, owned by Maurice Clément de Coppet.
