Description
ATTRIBUTED TO PHILIPP FERDINAND DE HAMILTON Around 1664 Brussels - 1750 Vienna DUCK FAMILY Oil on canvas (relined). 85.5 x 123 cm (F. 106 x 143.5 cm). Min. old rest., min. old retouching. Frame. With dramatic lighting, the painting shows a group of live ducks in a dark, nocturnal riverside landscape. A diving duck enlivens the scene with dynamic movement, while the warm light makes the animals stand out vividly from the deep brown tones of the background. The atmospheric depiction of nature and the sensitive rendering of the plumage are reminiscent of Nordic animal painting around 1700 and are stylistically very close to the work of Carl Wilhelm de Hamilton. Provenance: East German private collection.
