Description
VENETIAN SCHOOL OF THE 16TH/17TH CENTURY IN THE STYLE OF PAOLO VERONESE 1528 Verona - April 1588 Venice THE FINDING AND DELIVERY OF MOSES Oil on canvas (relined). 151 x 113 cm (F. 163 x 125 cm). Partially slightly old rest., min. old retouching. Frame. This high-quality history painting depicts the biblical scene of the discovery of Moses (Exodus 2:1-10). The focus is on the Pharaoh's daughter, dressed in royal attire and surrounded by a richly attired entourage. The naked child is presented to her, while she decides his fate with a calm, dignified gesture. The composition clearly follows 16th-century Venetian models, in particular the iconographic and compositional tradition of Paolo Veronese. The central, aristocratically upright female figure, the bright contrasts of yellow and blue, the ornamented fabrics, and the park-like landscape with its wide depth gradation and architectural backdrop all refer to the great Venetian history painting tradition. Provenance: International private collection.
